ITD Cem is associated with Delhi MRTS right from the beginning of Phase 1 when the work commenced in 1998 and has been continuously contributing to the growth of the MRTS in Delhi & National Capital Region (NCR). Meeting time bound targets set by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the first project awarded to us by DMRC was the foundation package comprising of large diameter piles for elevated Kashmere Gate Station and diaphragm walling for the underground Line 2. It was for the first time in India that ITD Cem with support from Cementation, UK introduced peel off stop-end pipes for placing water bars between diaphragm walls panel joints. Also desanders were used for the first time for recycling Bentonite and thus keeping the environment clean.

During the period 1998 to 2010, the Company executed construction of five elevated stations on Line 1, specialist works of piling and diaphragm walling for KSHI Joint Venture in university area and IMCC Joint Venture in Connaught Place, Kashmere Gate and Central Secretariat Areas on Line 2,ITD Cem executed a project of six elevated stations in Dwarka for line 3 and 0.50 km of viaduct and an elevated station and an on grade station, ramp and boundary wall for extension of the line from Sector 9 to Sector 22 in Dwarka on Line 3.

As a part of joint venture with ITD (ITD-ITD Cem JV), two projects namely BC-21 and BC-24 are being executed. For Phase 2 of Delhi MRTS project, Gurgaon Phase the JV was awarded design and construction of viaduct and structural work of five elevated stations.

Package BC-24 of Phase 2 Central Secretariat- Badarpur Line (To be completed prior to commencement of Common wealth Games in 2010) comprised of 8.3 km of tunnelling of finished dia of 5.8m using four earth-pressure balancing Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) of 6.64m dia, three stations by “Top Down” construction method, 120 m cut and cover tunnel in rock at Udyog Bhawan and 285m ramp at Lajpat Nagar, eight cross passages, Intervention shaft and other ancillary structures. The construction team achieved 37.5m of tunnelling in a day which is now an Asian Record.

Tunnelling for the BC24 Project entailed operations under multi-storeyed buildings at Jungpura and under golf link residencies. In spite of difficult working conditions like heavy traffic and VIP movements, the tunnelling operations were completed ahead of schedule. This was achieved through a state-of-the-art casting yard established at Mundka, 40 km away from the project site where 35,000 segments were cast over a period of the 14 months.

Three stations namely Khan Market, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Jungpura were part of the contract and were constructed by Top Down method having Diaphragm walling all around. Stations were constructed on busy roads of Delhi abutting Ambassador Hotel, old residences and upscale Khan Market and Government Official Residences. The work also entailed clearance of utilities of the British Period like crossing nallahs which involved identifying of utilities and their relocation and traffic management / diversions which were the biggest challenge in each of the stations and tunnel works.
